The MDI Historical Society, along with 3 island libraries, will host a panel of five new leaders on MDI, discussing their vision for the future and sharing thoughts on how we can come together as an island in the face of growing challenges. New to a professional workforce, up-and-coming leaders are knowledgeable, have creative ideas, and incorporate different values into the workplace. But do they have the power, influence, or platform to make organizational and community change? What obstacles do they face when advocating for change? How can our communities be better listeners and partners to what new generations of leaders have to offer? Five panelists will present their vision for the future of MDI, how that vision was formed, and what we can do to help, followed by an open discussion about our shared values and how those can inform a common vision for the future.
The decisions we make today, individually and collectively, will have lasting effects on future generations, just as we have inherited the consequences of decisions made in our past. This unbreakable chain between past, present, and future shapes our decision-making process to create a better social, economic, and environmental future for the next generations. Fresh perspectives from new leaders can inspire us to think differently about important issues like housing, small business and economic growth, climate change, connection to our communities, and our decision-making processes. The five panelists are Jessica Bass, Tremont school committee and community advocate; Adam Fraley, Northeast Lobster Co; Cali Martinez, Town of Bar Harbor; Ezra Sassaman, Maine Climate Action Now; and Eliza Worrick, Mount Desert 365. Hosted by the Mount Desert Island Historical Society in collaboration with the Northeast Harbor Library, Southwest Harbor Public Library, and Jesup Memorial Library.
The event is free and will be offered in-person or via Zoom. To reserve your seat, or to get the Zoom link, please register at https://nehlibrary.libcal.com/event/12051516
