"Tales of Lightning: Stories from 20th century Mount Desert Island" with Brent Richardson

On Friday, March 22, 2024, we welcomed Brent Richardson for an evening of storytelling from 20th-century Mount Desert Island, a time when horse and buggy travel was still commonplace and dairy farms dotted the island. Brent is an 8th-generation descendant of James and Rachel Richardson, the first permanent European settlers on Mount Desert Island along with Abraham Somes and his family in 1762. He assumed the character of his grandfather, Ralph Richardson, Sr., recounting stories of the people and way of life in the early to mid-20th century Indian Point and surrounding towns.

The program took place at the Town Hill Community Hall in Bar Harbor.
