On July 1, 2026, at the Northeast Harbor Library, Patrick Callaway and Jen Heindel, from the Society’s collections department, hosted an evening of myth-busting and storytelling, uncovering the truth behind the island’s most persistent lore.

They also shared information about the free digital history tour "What Happened Here: MDI History Adventure," featuring over 20 sites across Mount Desert Island.

A fast-paced, image-filled presentation, it explained the true story, why they came about, and why they still persist. This program was a collaboration between the MDI Historical Society and the Northeast Harbor Library.
