On May 10th, the MDI Historical Society will team up with the Barn Arts Collective for “The Vintage Classroom: A Day in the Sound Schoolhouse, 1895.” This interactive performance introduces participants to the history of Mount Desert Island at the turn of the 20th century. Led by schoolteacher Mrs. Abbott (Maude March) and a host of dynamic characters from the village past, the audience will learn about classroom lessons, popular games, and granite quarrying and fiber arts. Join us at the Schoolhouse from 12:30 pm to 3pm on Thursday, May 10th for an afternoon of history brought to life. Suitable for ages 8 and up. Admission is free but space is limited, so please RSVP at 276-9323 or to eloise.schultz@mdihistory.org. Funding provided in part by the Maine Humanities Council and the Maine Arts Commission.
