Chebacco Author Talk: Gloves, with Jamie Blaine

  • Northeast Harbor Library 1 Joy Road Northeast Harbor, Maine 04662 (map)

Join journalist, educator, and writer Jamie Blaine at the Northeast Harbor Library for an evocative look at the bonds that define Northeast Harbor. His talk is based on his essay “Gloves,” published in the 2026 edition of the MDI Historical Society’s history journal Chebacco.

Drawing on his journey from seasonal resident to full-time neighbor, Jamie will reflect on the evolving, delicate balance between our year-round and summer populations, the town’s seasonal shifts, and its mounting affordability challenges. His talk will highlight the deep interdependence that sustains the village and call for a shared commitment to protecting our community as equal partners.

This program is a collaboration between the MDI Historical Society and the Northeast Harbor Library and will be presented in person and online via Zoom.

Aside from an abortive run for Congress and a turbulent stint overseeing a cattle ranch in Colombia, Jamie Blaine has spent most of his professional life as a journalist, educator, writer, and consultant to nonprofits. He has a BA from Harvard and a PhD from the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Joanie, live in Northeast Harbor, where they eagerly await visits from their four children and nine grandchildren.
