Chebacco Chats: The History of MDI Biological Laboratory with Jeri Bowers, David Evans, and Dr. Hermann Haller

Click here to join the Zoom webinar - it’s the same link every Thursday.

Chebacco Chats welcome Jeri Bowers, David Evans, and Dr. Hermann Haller of MDI Biological Laboratory to talk about the organization’s history of 125 years of cutting edge science on the rugged Maine coast.

The MDI Biological Laboratory was founded in 1898 as a summer research and education facility that provided an opportunity to study, compare, and elucidate basic biological processes in a diverse range of organisms.

Bowers, Evans, and Haller will discuss the role of George Dorr and other benefactors in establishing the MDI Biological Laboratory, a bit about the laboratory’s early history on MDI, along with some of the current work being done at MDIBL today.

Jeri Bowers joined the MDI Biological Laboratory in 1999 as the Director of Development and Public Affairs, responsible for all fundraising, communications and government relations activities for the institution. She has played a key role in the growth of the institution during her tenure.

David Evans, Ph.D., is Emeritus Professor, University of Florida and former Director of the MDI Biological Laboratory.

Dr. Hermann Haller is President of MDI Biological Laboratory, along with Professor and Director of the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension, Hanover Medical School.

Chebacco Chats, our weekly web series, features authors, historians, and others who study and celebrate history, the great place that is Mount Desert Island, and the way the island impacts the wider world.

The Chats are live on Zoom, and recordings are made available the week after they air.
