Chebacco Author Talk- Battling for the Ballot: The Long Fight in Maine

  • Jesup Memorial Library 34 Mount Desert Bar Harbor, ME 04609 (map)

Catherine McDonald chronicles the long road to women’s suffrage on MDI, traced through generations of local women and their increasing role in social activism, through an exploration of the public attitudes that accompanied women’s rising power and the voices that tried to halt their progress.

Catherine graduated from the University of Maine in 2019 with a BA in History and Secondary Education, and from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2024 with a MA in American History. Catherine started Boundless Local Tour Company in 2023 and offers historical tours in Bar Harbor and Eastport. She lives in Addison with her partner Larry, hopes to pursue a PhD, and continues to share local history with visitors to Downeast Maine.
