Join historian Raney Bench to discuss the rise and fall of the Ku Klux Klan in Maine during the 1920s. At the height of this short-lived movement 23% of the population of Maine were members of the Klan. Bench will explore what prompted Klan activity, why Mainers were so susceptible to the Klan's messaging, and what brought about its abrupt end. Raney Bench is Executive Director of the Mount Desert Island Historical Society and author of the article Maine's Gone Made, Chebacco 2014.
