The MDI Historical Society has had another remarkable year, and we want to celebrate with the community that makes it all possible.

Join us at the Neighborhood House on Thursday, August 20 for an evening that begins with our Annual Meeting, where we'll share updates and look ahead together. Around 6:00, we’ll have a community potluck, live music, and dancing. The Bagaduce Northern New England Ensemble is a spirited nine-piece band that captures the infectious, danceable sound of Maine's rural dance halls from the 19th and 20th centuries, with deep roots in traditional Maine fiddle styles.

The event is free and open to all (only current members may vote at the meeting). Bring a dish to share and your dancing shoes!

About the Bagaduce Northern New England Ensemble

The Bagaduce Northern New England Ensemble plays contra dance music from the Northeastern United States with a focus on the traditional fiddle style of Maine. The Maine fiddle style and repertoire encompasses influences from England, Ireland, France, Scotland, Scandinavia, and West Africa by way of the Caribbean.

With music that is energetic and danceable, this nine-piece band captures the instrumentation and sound that dominated Maine’s rural dance halls during the 19th and 20th centuries. The BNNE Ensemble was formed from participants in lessons and guided jam sessions offered by Bagaduce Music at its Blue Hill campus.
