Chebacco Chats welcome Jeri Bowers, David Evans, and Dr. Hermann Haller of MDI Biological Laboratory to talk about the organization’s history of 125 years of cutting edge science on the rugged Maine coast.

The MDI Biological Laboratory was founded in 1898 as a summer research and education facility that provided an opportunity to study, compare, and elucidate basic biological processes in a diverse range of organisms. Bowers, Evans, and Haller discuss the laboratory’s early history on MDI, its shifts over the last century-plus, along with some of the current work being done at MDIBL today.


About Our Guests

Jeri Bowers joined the MDI Biological Laboratory in 1999 as the Director of Development and Public Affairs, responsible for all fundraising, communications and government relations activities for the institution.

David Evans, Ph.D., is Emeritus Professor, University of Florida and former Director of the MDI Biological Laboratory. He is author of Marine Physiology Down East: The Story of the Mt. Desert Island Biological Laboratory.

Dr. Hermann Haller is President of MDI Biological Laboratory, along with Professor and Director of the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension, Hanover Medical School.
