Thanks for considering a donation to the Mount Desert Historical Society.

Financial Donations

All our donors at all financial levels are technically members of our organization. Click here to become a member, or buy someone else a membership.

Benefits include being the first to hear about upcoming events and getting a copy of Chebacco, our yearly publication.

Historical Item Donations

The Society is very selective about the objects and archival materials it acquires and collects only those whose provenance can help interpret the history of Mount Desert Island. All acquisitions are approved by the Collections Committee.

Artifacts and collections should be stable and in good condition, and MDIHS must be able to provide adequate care as determined by established, professional standards.

Gifts to the Society will be made without restrictions, and the owner must have clear and legal title to the artifact, and that title must be transferred to MDIHS. Items are not accepted on deposit.

Contact the Curator of Collections if you are considering making a donation or have questions. We will discuss the material with you, review donation procedures, and make arrangements to obtain more information.
